062 #1: Try Lots of Different Things

How to Increase Collaborative Solutions Development (CSD) Capability

First, let’s reframe the question as a problem to be solved:

“There appears to be a great deal of value to be realized from increasing collaborative solutions development capability. So what is a good approach to increasing this capability on a broad scale?”

Now that this is framed as a problem, we can apply a series of problem solving approaches.

Approach #1: Try Lots of Different Things

The first approach is “try lots of different things and see if something works”. This is the approach that the market has tried to date.

Again, there are hundreds of partial solutions to the problem of collaborative solutions development, in the areas of collaboration, decision support, process modeling, project planning, group sessions and many supporting disciplines.

However,
   -  there are no clear market leaders (”Where is the Word, Excel, Acrobat or Saleforce.com for collaborative solutions development?”), and
  -  skilled resources and their methods are not sufficiently transportable, flexible or scalable,  the net of which is that
  -  the long cycles of meetings and communications, the cost, risk, error and delay, the frustration, conflict and stress, etc. all continue.
